Thon and Four Diamonds: Helping Families



The 62 couples who danced in the fifth annual Thon in 1977 raised more than $28,000 for a fledgling charity at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center called The Four Diamonds Fund. Since its founding in 1972 by parents who lost a child to cancer, The Four Diamonds Fund—aided by $46 million plus in Thon proceeds—has helped more than 2,000 families.

Group Profile: Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group



Founded in 1996 in anticipation of the 25th anniversary of Thon in 1997, the Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group (DMAIG) strives to keep the thousands of students who've worked with Thon connected to one of Penn State's most beloved traditions. By promoting continuing involvement in Thon beyond graduation, Thon weekend in February is quickly becoming a popular weekend for alumni to reunite by giving time, money, and resources to aid The Four Diamonds Fund in conquering childhood cancer.
